Other than in Inception, Leonardo Dicaprio play’s Cobb in some of his other movies.
In Blood Diamond, Cobb enters the mind of Solomon Vanday, the leader of a rebel army in Sierra Leone. In his dream, Solomon is a fisherman searching for his lost family. Cobb convinces Solomon he will help him find his family if he helps him find a “blood diamond” which is actually vital information about the rebels that the Sierra Leone government is after.
The movie Titanic, is about one of Cobb’s earlier assignments (hence why he looks so young). In this movie, he enters the mind of a Rose Bukater, the heiress of an incredibly wealthy family. In her dream, Cobb seduces Rose into forming a relationship with him, but he is actually looking for information about her family’s business which exists in the dream in the form of a precious diamond. However, Cobb is not alone in this woman’s mind. There is another dream invader in there with him, who takes on the form of Calden “Cal” Hockley and convinces Rose that he is her fiancée.
Both Cobb and Cal were unaware, however, that Rose Bukater’s subconscious had been trained to deal with intruders. The dream began to collapse and the ship began to sink. The dream was ending before Cobb or Cal had a chance to get to the diamond. Cobb decided the mission was a failure and orchestrated his exit in the dream. He let himself freeze in the ice cold ocean water to himself so he would wake up in the real world.
Finally, Shutter Island is about what happens to Cobb after years of invading dreams. His subconscious is warped. He can longer tell the difference between dreams and reality and hallucinates while he is still awake creating complex narratives in his head. He is sent to a mental institution.
